1 CommentsTrustees’ Annual Report (cont) Year Ended 31 December 2012 Achievements and Performances
Concerts and special events – In February we were delighted to welcome the author of the popular children’s book ‘The Pigs of Puddledub’, Aileen Paterson, to read her book to the school children at the Kirk. Aileen is a born ‘communicator’ and her years of writing children’s stories and teaching art have made her a very captivating storyteller – there were many captivated adults in the audience as well as the children.
Later in February, the children were also involved with a submission to ‘KANES’ for funds for our path project – although we were unsuccessful in this instance because of very worthwhile competition, there was better news at the end of the year.
In March we were all involved in the Kirkcaldy Presbytery’s ‘Celebrate and Discover’ event at Kirkcaldy High School – we had a set of display panels with many photographs of the church and children’s drawings and poetry and hand-outs were available for people who were interested in the history of the church and for our continuing plans to improve access and showcase the wonderful view from our beautiful rural location.
On 27 May we had a concert by the ‘Kinghorn Singers’ – winners of their group trophy at Fife Festival of Music and firm favourites at our venue which very much suits their ‘repertoire’.
On 26 June Avison Plus performed works by a range of composers and filled the church in more ways than one, on what turned out to be a very wet night but was greatly enjoyed regardless.
September brought ‘Doors Open Day’ and after that the use of our church by East Fife Male Voice Choir to record a CD of their music and then another concert by Nancy Crook and the Queen Anne Singers with an unusual mix of organ pieces and modern songs which was well received by all.
The Kirk was open for the annual Presbytery ‘Bike and Hike’ event, also Board members assisted teachers with the school children’s visit to ‘Bibleworld’ when it visited Kirkcaldy this year.
A brief mention here also of our Remembrance Day service at which we had four wreaths being laid by a local councillor, a representative of Earl Haig and a relative of one of the casualties named on our war memorial window as well as our usual church elder mark of respect.
As mentioned earlier – we are involved with the village in a project to develop the path from the village as a more ‘user-friendly’ resource and we are delighted to be able to record that we have been granted an amount by the General Trustees which will give us a good start on the first phase of this project – ie. the access from the main gate being re-routed to allow an easier path to the front door.
