Harvest Thanksgiving service on Sunday 7th October 9:30am in Auchtertool Kirk

A time to celebrate a year of sun, warmth and growth, to thank our Creator for our lives and all good we receive, especially in fields, gardens and nature. A very special welcome to all farmers, land managers, gardeners, game keepers, anglers, … as well as to all others.

You are invited to give harvest goods (either fresh or packaged) to the richly decorated harvest table for display – your goods will afterwards be donated to Salvation Army Kirkcaldy  who fight poverty, feed whoever is hungry and co-operate with Kirkcaldy Foodbank .

SERVICES in AUCHTERTOOL KIRK 9.30am Sundays

2018 is the Year of Young People YoYP. We made a start on 28th January. And over the next Sundays, we’ll explore young peoples’ stories, in Bible and in todays life. On August 12th, we were thinking about the 12-year-old girl who was considered dead but was revived by Jesus. On  19th Aug. we enjoyed a hands-on service “the questions & ideas of Young People”: listen to them, and give them room – just as Jesus was a 12-year-old boy and he was listened to. On Sun. 26th  we heard what Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it”... and also not laden with material stuff: become like a child, let go, … . On Sun. 2nd Sept. “The Guild” led worship in true team spirit, their theme 2018: “Seeking the way“. A nice change from our ministers leading worship! On the 9th Catriona took the theme “Growing up – out of paradise”. On Sept. 16th we’ll focus on the story of Cain and Abel = what does it mean to be human? On the 23rd Catriona made rainbows! On the 30th, Marc made and compared giant soap bubbles (which eventually burst) with words of prayer (which get forgotten, or no words found) – yet, inside it contains what you put in; goodness is never lost (even though bubbles burst). October 7th – see above: Harvest!!!

AUCHTERTOOL-connected  EVENTS

Have your say in the new Kirkcaldy Area community plan (includes Auchtertool). This is about green spaces, housing, public places/amenities, community inclusion, how you feel and events. One idea: what about the churches role in the community? Paper copies are in community centres, local libraries. Onlinehttps://tinyurl.com/plan4k2018

Remembrance of Peace – Sunday 11th November 2018, start 10:30am in Auchtertool Kirk:

100 years since “peace broke out”, ending World War 1. Auchtertool’s community war memorial, unusually, is a window in its kirk. This community celebration service starts 10:30am for a time of quiet reflection at 11 o’clock on the 11th day of the 11th month.

Everyone is welcome to sit and reflect and seek inspiration near the  village war memorial, the window. Laying of wreaths, especially by community councillors and relatives of those whose names are known on the memorials, is to be part of the service. Remembering thoughtfully with dignity those who died, the tragedy of war, and the peace that followed.
